Research into Props



Ouija-
One of the few props used in 'Ouija' is the use of a Ouija board which is also known as a spirt board.
The use of this prop indicates that the film has a supernatural/paranormal genre which is suggested through the the spiritual menages the board can create with people. The ouija board is a good  prop to use in a horror film as the mysterious aspect of the board and the fear of the unknown people have for it, makes it effective as it creates fear.


Sinister-
The lawnmower is used as source to kill the victims,  this subverts to common conventions of the type of prop used for murders in horror films, as the commonly used weapons are props such as axes and knives.

SAW-
The props is the saw films are commonly torture based which gives it its 18 age rating as it might be distressing for people to watch due to the excessive gore. Weapons such as these to the left shows that saw has the genre of gore, and the commonly used props are weapons such as chainsaws and other sharp objects so saw subverts to the usual appearance of gore props.




The Possession-
mise-en-scene such as candles and small wooded antique boxes symbolises religion and these are used in the possession as it has the genre of the film is  'possession'. The religious aspect in possession films normally relates the exorcisms taking place, which applies to this films when the adults daughter becomes possessed.
