Deconstruction of Actors: Insidious



 

• We see a middle aged man, between 40-45. He is well dressed as if he has a respectable job and could be ranked socially as upper middle class as he is dressed in a shirt and tie. However, the manner in which he is represented in isn't smart because he has buttons undone on his shirt as well as his tie not being properly done up. This suggests that he has or is experiencing some sort of stress where he is preoccupied with other matters. 

• The medium close up of a woman aged between 30-40 who also looks as if she is preoccupied with stress as she isn't dressed impressively with out any attempts of stand out make-up or hair, suggesting that she, like her husband (the man) are both undergoing stress (mid life crisis). Her facial expressions not only signify depression, but the shot of her face also represents anxiety and fear, arguably. We also see tears in her eyes giving the impression there is an upset in the film and adds to common representations of woman being emotionally weaker than men by not hiding her emotions, whereas her husband (the man) is seen to cope better.



• Here we see a woman who can be seen as the protagonist because in this scene where the character are sitting round a table she is there offering support to the couple. She is also middle aged, like the wife, but the picture shows her as more stable and emotionally stronger compared to the other two characters as she is more composed with a respectable dress code, suggesting that she is a healer or psychic as they are commonly depicted in possession horror genres.
