Sound Effects

  • For non diegetic sound effects we downloaded two backing tracks which are have a similar type of music. They both include pianos with high pitched eerie music to give a sense of suddenness and mystery. They also both raise tension towards the end of the tune by making the tempo of the music quicker, suggesting that the opening of our title will lead to a climax. This links to the genre is a horror through the spooky, low pitched music, as well as a mystery through the use of eerie, high pitched music.
  • The evil laugh can also relate to our genre of mystery as the immediate high pitch gives an idea of suddenness, making the opening more frightening to the audience adding to the horror genre. The echo effect in the background makes it sound 'everlasting', suggesting that the laugh can never be escaped, giving the sense of a psychological thriller as it adds to the idea of entrapment and overall enforcing horror genre.
  • The horror drone also raises tension as it becomes louder as the sound effect progressing suggesting that the opening of our title is climactic. The sounds familiar to machinery links to disorientation which not only adds to a horror but to the psychological side as well.
  • The wind effect also suggests the horror genre because its a common convention of horror films as it gives a supernatural effect as it relates to our genre as it conforms to the common media image of possession horrors.
  • The sound effect of a woman screaming gives a sudden and loud sound to make it more startling/surprising which adds to the common conventions of a horror and therefore reinforces our genre. The high pitched sound effect make it uncomforting to listen to as it's seen as terrifying and scary which represents the genre as horror really effectively.
  • We also found a sound of someone knocking on the door which can be used in our opening title to break the silence as it's loud and sudden, making it effective for uses where you can surprise the audience. Because it offers uses of sudden scares it will be useful in our opening because it signifies the genre of our film, therefore engaging our target audience.
