Deconstructuon: Opening Titles

Insidious Opening Title:
First shot is the Director's name (James Wan) which immediately tells the audience that the film is a horror film because research would show the James Wan films are all of the horror/thriller descent, such as 'Saw', 'Dead Silence' and 'The Conjuring'. His name is shown in the first seven seconds over a bright circle shaped object.. Graphic match shows this to be ball shaped lamp in a small boys room as the camera then twists its view from it being upside down to the right way up which causes confusion and represents that there is a psychological side (symbolic for having your mind in turmoil).
The sound effects are what also make it scary because the non diegetic music begins quiet and slow, but changes towards the end as the tension builds towards the minute work with violins screeching high pitched notes, emphasizing some form of distress and then the scary face appears where the tension builds again and is suddenly released as the title of 'Insidious' comes onto the screen and a loud percussion begin playing.
Grave Encounters:

The opening titles of 'Grave Encounters' is very effective for identifying the genre and the prestige of the programme as it shows the actors and film companies names. The first shot is of the production company which is 'Twisted Pictures', who are a well known production company who specialise in horror genre, immediately signifying that the genre is horror related. The actors names also suggest that it is a prestigious programme as it includes the likes of Harrison Ford, Miranda Otto and Michelle Pfeiffa. Like 'Insidious' the opening titles don't uncover the plot of the film , but instead it is enigmatic and offers mystery as to what the programme is about. The fact that the director of 'Grave Encounters' is Shawn Goodrich emphasizes the genre of the film as a horror as he is known to be a director of horror films.
