Practice Using Photoshop Typography

Using Photoshop I created several different typography ideas which could be used in our credit sequences.

1.
  • This font was created using three layers of text on the font setting 'pristina'.
  • Thefirst layer isdark red and then blurred using a brush on strength 100, giving a shadowed appearance
  • The second layer was created directly on top of the first, using a grey font. This was then blurred on strength 5.
  • The final layer was created using the same colour as the first and was blurred on strength 30.
Strengths and Weaknesses
  • It is effective because the colour scheme is often used in pre existing films of the supernatural possession horrors. The font type is also similar to ones seen on pre existing films.
  • The blurred effect is effective as the text jumps out of the background which links to supernatural possession horror.
  • The font could be better by not being quite as uniform and having elements of distortion to it.
2.
  • This font was created using two layers of font using 'Vladimir Script'.
  • The first layer was typed in black font, it was then magnetically lassoed in random sections of the wording and this were brushed over in red. I then blurred these on strength 100.
  • I then used the healing brush over a small front section of the word revealing the black text.
  • I then lassoed another random section of text and dragged it just above the word creating the slightly faded red patches.
Strengths and Weaknesses
  • I like this design because it looks like something seen in possession horror films that I have deconstructed and therefore is authentic.
  • I think it also has the benefit of every word created would be slightly individual as the effects would happen randomly.
  • One weakness of this style is that it is time consuming as each word would take time to create individually.
