- there is commonly a hero protagonist and they are usually a male, in most films this is the father in the family that is being haunted.- the victim is always the more vulnerable character, these character types are normally female, young child, teenager, mother or family.
The protagonist- this I usually a male and they are normally
the smartest of the group.
The unlikely hero- this character is generally the one the
audience suspects to be the antagonist or the victim.
The antagonist- the antagonist is normally revealed at the
end of the film.

Annabelle- The victims in Annabelle is a young couple and the woman is pregnant showing vulnerability and this a common convention in horror/possession films as it creates fear for the audience. The antagonist is a doll which subverts to common representations of dolls as they are usually seen as innocent children's toys.
Insidious- the victim in this film is a young boy which makes him vulnerable to the supernatural events.
The conjuring- the victims in this film is a family of five female children, they are victimised due to their isolated location and their innocence.The possession- The victim to the supernatural events is a young girl which is commonly used throughout horror films as they are represented as weak and defenceless. The girl is from a broken home so she is also emotionally sensitive.
