I used Adobe software After Effect to create this production company clip. I wanted to create a VHS effect
I recorded a persons eye using a + 4 close up lens and opened it in the software as a new project
I applied the CC RepeTile effect which adds a shake to the video
I then duplicated the layer and set the mode to 'Colour'
I moved this 'Colour' mode layer to the left and up so it wasn't in line with the original clip to make a slight colour shadow
Then I added the 'Add Grain' effect to add noise/grain to the image to look like the white noise you get over VHS tapes
I then saved an image of black and white lines and imported them into the software and overlayed them onto the clip and set the layer to 11% opacity to ensure the background clip was visible
I then imported a GIF of coloured interference to the clip and put it over the clip it twice at two different periods
I downloaded a font from dafont.com which looks like an old VHS font
I typed the name 'VISION PRODUCTIONS' in the center of the clip frame in this font and made the font white
I duplicated the text layer several times and moved it in the frame slightly to create a flicker effect
Evaluation
- The quality of the video is very high so it looks professional
- The VHS effect is convincing
- The clip is simple and not distracting
- The font fits the clip
- It was quite complicated to create however the final product was successful
- It was quite short once edited
- I could have improved the movement of the text
