Deconstruction of Location and Mise-en-scene

Clap Scene

  • Low key lighting
  • Only one light source which creates gentle shadows
  • Lots of space which creates echoes and makes the room have darker areas
  • Old wooden furniture shows the period in which the film was set

  • Large staircase with high open area puts the audience on edge as Carolyn could fall
  • Large family home which is a common convention of horror

  • Dark room with only one source of light, the light is half on an old wooden wardrobe
  • Children's posters on wall are only colour in the room

  • Wardrobe opens by itself like it is possessed. Objects moving by themselves or being moved by spirits are a very common convention in horror
  • Lighting in wardrobe as clothes move like there is something in there
