Locations in a horror possession film usually have similar locations, especially films with the same narrative.
- In 'The Conjuring' the film is about an evil spirit living in an old house sold at auction. Because the locations have no history it is very enigmatic as it makes the audience raise questions about what the location. In the picture there is a lot of land around the house, with part of a tree in the foreground. hanging on the tree is a rope used to hang people. This iconography immediately adds to the location as it suggests that evil/death is lurking. The idea that the tree is dead and bare means that there is no life in the location of the house.
- The house from 'The woman in black' shares similar conventions to the location in 'The Conjuring' as the picture shows us that there is a lot of vegetation around the house, giving the impression that the location has been deserted for a while. This gives a sense of mystery as it makes the audience ask what reason is there for the area to be abandoned. The house itself is similar to the house from 'The Conjuring' as it's old, preferably 18th century design. The old age of the house adds to the genre of horror because the fact that it's old is a common convention of horror/possession films.
- The location from 'Insidious' differs from the other two locations in comparison because for a start we see no overgrown vegetation as this area in an urban area, going against the idea that all possession horror films have to be placed in the country where it is more isolated. This location has been made scary because it has old architecture. The film 'Annabelle' also takes place in an urban area. The location is made scary by the area being vulnerable to city crime (murder), the house itself does not give the impression of supernatural occurrences.

- The Annabelle apartments are in an urban area. They aren't old or abandoned and the area which they are located isn't bad with crime for example. This is a common convention for horror films to take place in because it foreshadows the plot because it gives the impression that the area is too good to be true. This is also demonstrated in The Conjuring and Insidious where it begins happy and joyful, but the intro of supernatural occurrences causes horror and depression.
