Deconstruction of Murder house- AHS

-  At the beginning of the clip it shows shots of the murder house showing the shadows in the house and smashed photo frames of old portraits of children, implying they were the past victims from the murders in the house.

-  Then non-diegetic music is eerie and repetitive in the background which is appropriate for the genre and creates tension.

-  There are small clips of loud and expressive sounds to emphasise the mise-en-scene and impact of the shot.
-  The next few shots show images of skulls and jars filled with preserved body parts and this is effective because it gives a sense of mystery for the audience a they want to watch on further so see why.

-  Close ups and extreme close ups are used for the shots of the photo frames to show the fear and vulnerability in the victims face.
-  Montages are used frequently to slow time and create tension and are used to show a range of shots together that wouldn’t be as effective by itself.

-  When the actors names such as ‘Connie Britton’ and ‘Dylan McDermott’ come up the non-diegetic music gets louder to show the impact the actors will have in the series, the non-diegetic music becomes more aggressive also when these shots appear.

-  After that, there is a shot of someone holding garden shears antagonistically, creating a sense of danger, a few shots after and the shears are covered in blood, giving the audience an idea of what is to come.

-  The non-diegetic music gets quieter creating tension and mystery, this is when there is a shot of skeletons hanging from the ceiling gives a sense of death and murder in the scene.

-  The next few shots then show extreme close ups the previous photo frames burning indicating they are the victims in the murder house.

 -  At the end there is s non-diegetic dialogue of ‘American horror story’ spoken in a low and deep tone of voice which is appropriate for the sub-genre of horror slasher.
