Fake Wound Tutorial
Why Did I Choose This?
- Having studied World War Z previously as a deconstruction (from the zombie horror genre) it gave me the inspiration to try make up that was similar to what I had seen in the film
- Due to the time of year, with Halloween coming up I had something to aim towards that I could test the make up out on. This gave me a reason to make sure that what I did didn't come off easily and when it did wouldn't stain
Creating the Tutorial
The tutorial was filmed using my laptop web cam and microphone and was then uploaded onto Windows Movie Maker and edited on there. For the picture at the end I used my iPhone.
- Laptop web cam and microphone: Was good for viewing picture when filming and for ease of uploading to Movie Maker, however the picture is a little grainy and the sound is not always audible
- iPhone camera: Was good for clear picture and choosing an angle to take it from, however it was harder to upload the picture to Movie Maker
- Windows Movie Maker: Was good for easy editing and viewing edits made however was harder to save as the correct file format for uploading and changing the length of time of text appearance
Strengths of the Wound
- overall the idea worked and was well explained
- the effect is easily achievable should it be wanted again
- did not come off too easily
Weaknesses of the Wound
- creating it was messy
- required many items to create it
Strengths of Filming/Editing
- footage filmed was concise
- when edited it flowed well
- text was concise
Weaknesses of Filming/Editing
- the speech should have been minimised or planned better
- quality of camera used in filming could have been of better quality as it was grainy and the colours were not very noticeable
- when text was shown it should have been over a longer period of time as it was hard to read so quickly without having to be paused
Evaluation
Overall I think the tutorial went well and would be useful to others wanting to achieve a similar look. The editing went well and finished with a fluid tutorial. It could have been made better if the camera used to film was of a higher quality and if the text was shown for a little bit longer
